All the Noise
The intensity of the construction outside my studio isn’t a consistent predictably timed thing and I’m wondering how that has been affecting my sleep. I’m usually a heavy sleeper, but with the inconsistency of my schedule, I wonder how the external noise and energies are affecting it too. The best and deepest sleep I had was during a meditation retreat. I slept in a tiny and plain room with white walls on either side. There were no decorations other than the flimsy curtain that acted as our “door” and entrance to our individual rooms/pods. We were also meant to be in bed by 9:00pm. I felt very well-rested, but I also remembered my dreams so clearly.
Anyway, here we are on a weekday—it’s a Thursday afternoon and you would think that the noise would be unbearable, but it’s milder and more quiet than last Saturday. Shouldn’t they be doing the heaviest type of work during the week days when people are likely in their office and not at home on a Saturday? The noise reached a peak last week. Noise pollution aside—what are we doing to ourselves? To the planet we were meant to steward? What are we becoming? It’s no wonder all this alien contact is bubbling up—even the beings within or beyond our solar system, are concerned about our choices and going beyond our language to try and talk to us.
I’m writing (i.e. obsessing) about the noise because it’s my current reality. I hear a buzzing above me from within the building and some hammering from the building being constructed across my studio. I have to always keep my blinds shut, because the windows aren’t tinted and I have found myself eye-to-eye with construction workers. I tend to offer a polite smile and move on, but if I kept them drawn so the light can get in, it will not encourage a sense of safety or privacy during the day, especially since my bed is right beside the floor-to ceiling windows.
I’ve been meaning to take shelter at the nearest public library, but I haven’t figured out a schedule for that yet. I feel like I’m being expelled from my place of refuge. Rent is exorbitant enough as it is, and we still have to deal with this question of how much or how little to stay in our homes.
